Our posts and advertisements cover a large swath of the social media universe, and with that, we see quite a number of regular homophobic posts from people who’ve stumbled upon VACAYA. Typically, we Hide, Delete, or simply Ban that person from posting, which erases all evidence of their homophobia. What we’ve been doing is akin to “hiding in the closet,” something we swore we’d never do again.
So TODAY, our “hiding” ends. Instead, VACAYA will take measures to ensure these posters’ remarks remain on full public display for the whole world to see. In today’s current political climate, racists, xenophobes, and homophobes feel empowered, but we’re ready to take that power back! We’re going to engage with a full-frontal attack, tagging their posts in hopes of rallying the LGBT+ community against their vile hatred. Of course we’ll do that with a fair amount of humor and sarcasm, which have proven to be the most successful ways of changing hearts and minds, and we encourage you to do the same.
The Vacayans fully recognize this post is a lot less “sunshine and lollipops” than our usual vacation posts, and no doubt you may see some uncomfortable exchanges on our various posts as engagement with these poor unfortunate souls increases, but ultimately and together, we can drive out the darkness.
