VACAYA’s partnership with UNICO 20°87° breaks the mold in LGBT all-inclusive resorts and rewrites the definition of value.
Our journey to VACAYA Oasis at UNICO begins in:
The Vacayans are hard at work planning each and every detail of our premiere VACAYA Oasis event at UNICO Riviera Maya. We’ll have lots to share with you over the coming months as each and every detail comes together. You’ll find that information here.
We’ll also house an email archive on this page, too. This archive will feature all the trip-specific communications we have with you throughout your pre-resort experience with us. That way, if you happen to lose a general email somewhere along the way, you’ll be able to find it right here.
And from party themes to entertainment previews, VACAYA’s mission is to give you everything you need with plenty of time to ensure a totally stress-free experience. Get ready for your vacaya!
Many people ask us “what will the VACAYA Oasis experience be like?” VACAYA Oasis is certainly more laid back than our large-ship cruises, but with an irresistible level of 5-star luxury, perfect for those seeking fun, relaxation, adventure, and romance.
The VACAYA Oasis rhythm is… Relaxed. Easy. Fun. Balanced. Luxurious. Indulgent. Sporty. Unscripted. Adventurous. An all-new way to play.
While nearly everything is included at UNICO 20˚87˚, there is one amenity that does cost extra: the resort’s 12 VIP Cabanas around the central La Unica and 20.87 Pools. These cabanas can be rented for $180 per day and hold a maximum of 4 guests each (one larger cabana holds 8 guests and rents for $250/day). That $180 fee can then be applied to any bottle service at the cabana. Individual drinks are included with your fare, of course, but full bottles of wine/champagne/alcohol are extra. So if you order a $200 bottle of champagne to enjoy at your cabana, you’d only pay the difference of $20 for that initial bottle of bubbly.
VACAYA Breeze & Suite guests will be able to reserve cabanas in advance when “extras booking” opens up for Breeze participants. Non-Breeze/Suite guests will be able to reserve a cabana on site at the resort.
CLOTHING OPTIONAL POOL
VACAYA will offer a clothing optional pool between Buildings 7 and 8. This is the La Escondida Pool. When moving outside of this area, we ask that you please put your swimsuit back on. We know you’ll be tempted to stroll into the 20.87 Restaurant for a quick bite because it’s “just right there” and “I’ll be real quick,” but please don’t do this sans clothes. UNICO has been very gracious in allowing us to provide this clothing optional pool to our guests, so we want to be as respectful as we can be in regard to the guidelines they’ve established. So thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Although US Dollars are widely accepted around Mexico, there are some businesses that will only take Mexican Pesos.
If you decide to purchase Mexican Pesos, the current exchange rate is:
1 USD = 19.2 MXN
For the latest exchange rates, we recommend https://www.xe.com.
UNICO 20˚87˚’s award-winning dining will be an absolute highlight of your time at the resort. There are multiple dining options for you to choose from each day. You can explore your different options HERE.

7am – 11am Mi Carisa (A La Carte)
12:30pm – 4:30pm 20.87 Restaurant (Buffet)
5pm – 11pm Mura House (A La Carte)
6pm – 11pm 20.87 Restaurant (A La Carte)
6pm – 11pm Mi Carisa (A La Carte)
6pm – 11pm Cueve Siete (A La Carte)
In addition to UNICO’s fine dining options, room service is available to you 24 hours a day. Explore and download their incredible in-room dining menu HERE. In-room dining can be ordered directly through the UNICO app.
With the exception of Mexican citizens, all travelers must have a valid passport to travel to Mexico via air.
Visas are not required for US Citizens, but may be required of other nationalities. You can check the official visa requirements/instructions for Mexico HERE. It is the responsibility of each traveler to have the proper travel documents.
When arriving at CUN Airport, you will go through Mexican Immigration and Customs. After collecting your luggage in the Arrivals Hall, make your way to the Customs queue. Mexican Customs officials scan all bags as they leave the Arrivals Hall and some are randomly selected for further inspection. You’ll be asked to press a button that lights up either green or red to determine whether you’ll be randomly selected. Green means “you’re free to exit without inspection.” Red means “you’ve been selected for further inspection.” If selected for further inspection, simply follow the instructions of the officials as they do a hand inspection of your luggage.
After exiting the Customs area, you will go through an area known as “The Gauntlet,” where hoteliers, tour operators, and car services attempt to sell you their products. No need to stop here. Just smile and keep walking toward the exit doors. Once you exit the building, you’ll meet your transfer driver just outside (more specific details will come later).
We’re so excited to be able to welcome the following artists to VACAYA Oasis @ UNICO 20°87°…
Tony Tripoli was the Executive Producer and Head Writer of E!’s hit show Fashion Police, as well as the opening act for the legendary Joan Rivers for 5 years.
He also wrote/produced Joan Knows Best, In Bed With Joan, The Dish, and tons of other shows you watched in a nail salon with the sound off.
Tony was a “Millionaire” on Patti Stanger’s phony matchmaking show, so, you should definitely ask him about that.
He’s done standup all over the world, and has worked with Kevin Hart, Sarah Silverman, Kathy Griffin, Margaret Cho, Rupaul, and Miss Piggy.
Nationally acclaimed Screen Actors Guild member and female celebrity impersonator Joe Posa draws from nearly 30 years of experience on stage, TV, motion pictures, cabaret, and nightclub performances to bring his latest production of Back & BITTER than Ever to the VACAYA stage. This evening of fabulosity is a tribute to the late great comic legend Joan Rivers.
Having performed alongside Ms. Rivers on two separate occasions, Joan referred to Joe as her “favorite Joan Rivers impersonator.”
Joe, who has performed as Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand, Michael Jackson, and others, has also doubled for two notable power women – Susan Lucci’s Erica Kane on All My Children, and Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon on 30 Rock. Joe’s training as a professional dancer has allowed him to interpret the movements and subtleties of each of his character recreations.
Since Ms. Rivers’ passing in 2014, Joe has been committed to keeping Joan’s memory alive by recreating the comic genius’s act throughout the United States and Mexico.
Jessica Kirson is an absolute powerhouse on stage. Her act is a hilariously relatable performance of sheer silliness, vulnerability, and ridiculous characters. Her countless comedic character videos have racked up over 30 million views on social media and now she’s all ours!
This year, you can catch Jessica playing herself on the HBO series Crashing (with Pete Holmes) and she recently served as a consultant, producer, writer, and also acted in the Robert De Niro film The Comedian. She’s appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The View, and Kevin Can Wait. She was recently awarded Best Female Comic by the MAC association in New York City and also received the prestigious Nightlife Award for Best Stand-up Comedian. In her spare time, Jessica is also a regular contributor to the Howard Stern Show.
In 1960 at age 19, Barbra Streisand was already making her mark in NYC, performing an array of jazz classics in between humorous musings and eccentric jokes. She was wacky, brilliant, and beautiful and had a musical sensibility that was far too advanced for someone her age. Thankfully one of her shows was recorded and lives on as Barbra Streisand, Live at Bon Soir. Intrigued by this recording, Comedian Matteo Lane was inspired to recreate this set of music and update it with his own flavor and stylings. Matteo’s show captures Barbra’s unique essence before she became a household name.
Matteo is a New York-based comedian whose stand-up special can be seen on Netflix’s The Comedy Lineup. He’s also currently developing a half hour pilot at Comedy Central, and is the host of the Snapchat series We Got Issues. Matteo has performed stand up on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Comedy Central’s Adam Devine’s House Party and The Comedy Jam, as well as HBO’s Crashing.
Fluent in five languages and with a singing range of six octaves, Matteo lived in Italy as an oil painter and opera singer before starting his comedy career.
Chord is an award-winning DJ and producer based in Washington, DC. In his hometown he’s been called “one of D.C.’s most popular, and increasingly prominent DJs” by Metroweekly. His high energy fusion of house, electro, dance, and funk has won him accolades wherever he spins.
Chord can be found in regular rotation at some of the hottest clubs, parties, and events in DC, New York, and beyond. He commands the dance floor with an effortless blend of uplifting vocals, exotic beats, and non-stop energy. Whether throwing down for a crowd of thousands or just mixing the grooves for a more intimate party, his immersive sets will keep you dancing long into the night.
Rick is a popular seasoned performer and musical director, who’s been familiar to South Florida audiences for over a decade. Hailing from New York City, he was a renowned entertainer and enjoyed residencies at such venues as Tavern on the Green, The Russian Tea Room, The Firebird, One If By Land Two If By Sea, and many more.
As a musical director, he founded Cabaret by the Bay in Cherry Grove, NY, and presented top tier cabaret artists there for over 7 years. In addition, he’s served as musical director for Belinda Carlysle (The GoGos), Kimberley Locke (American Idol), Broadway’s Shoshana Bean (Wicked), famed actress Sally Struthers (All In The Family), and many more.
Rick is currently a resident artist at “Live at the National” at the National Hotel in Miami Beach and he’s thrilled to be joining VACAYA for this inaugural Oasis event.
Born and raised in Maturin, Venezuela, Victor Valdez started singing at the age of 11 and playing the piano at age 14. He won several singing contests in Venezuela, representing his city nationwide in many arenas. In 2013, he was one of the winners in a National TV singing contest, Talentum.
Since arriving in Miami in 2014, he’s been a resident artist at renowned piano bars in the area, such as The Cabaret South Beach, Magnum Lounge, and the prestigious National Hotel.
Victor has performed with the Miami Symphony Orchestra, at the Arscht Center for Performing Arts (Miami Rocks! Concert), and most recently, appeared in a lead role in the world premiere of the new musical Mad Hatter, which opened in London in July and will soon be opening in the US.
Victor is excited to be making his VACAYA debut alongside Rick Leonard!
The Skivvies are Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley, singer/actor/musicians performing stripped down arrangements of eclectic covers and eccentric originals. Not only is the music stripped down – cello, ukulele, glockenspiel, melodica – but the Skivvies literally strip down to their underwear to perform.
Nominated for “Show of The Year” for the 2015 MAC Award, The Wall Street Journal calls them “smart, sophisticated…ingenious,” and Out Magazine says, “The Skivvies have managed to carve out a niche that we never knew needed to exist: part Weird Al parody and part sexy burlesque… an unusual explosion of satire and sultry.” People Magazine named The Skivvies “The Most Playful Performers” in The Most Talked about Bodies of 2014 issue and Sports Illustrated named them “Favorite New Band.” The New York Times calls them “a hot musical comedy duo specializing in unexpected arrangements, incongruous mashups, and of course, highly toned displays of skin.”
Lauren (Broadway’s Rock of Ages, Sweeney Todd, Mary Zimmerman’s Candide – Helen Hayes Award, Marry Me A Little) and Nick (Broadway First National All Shook Up, Pageant, and on the OUT 100 list as one of the “most compelling actors of 2014”) met in 2003 performing in Theatreworks USA’s national tour of Just So Stories. Quickly becoming best friends and musical collaborators, they began performing together in the city, with clothes on. The Skivvies were born in 2012, when they became YouTube sensations with their unique covers of artists like Robyn, Carole King, and Rihanna. The videos led to live shows, and now this “musically thrilling” undie-rock, comedy-pop duo continues to perform to sold-out audiences in New York and beyond.
In 2005, Nick earned a BFA in musical theatre with a minor in dance from the Boston Conservatory of Music. In New York, he joined the international tour of the musical Chicago, later joining the Broadway cast. He was also in the original Broadway cast of The Pirate Queen. In 2007, he co-starred with Mario Lopez as Larry in the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line and in 2009, he joined the original cast of the Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls.
In 2010, Nick played Angelique in the original Tony-winning revival of La Cage aux Folles, starring Kelsey Grammer. He also starred as Adam/Felicia in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
In 2016, Nick appeared in season two of the LGBT-themed sketch comedy web series Go-Go Boy Interrupted. And earlier this year appeared in the first season of the Comedy Central series The Other Two. He also recently starred as Whizzer Brown in the first national tour of the Lincoln Center Theater revival of Falsettos. Now, he joins The Skivvies for the VACAYA Oasis Inaugural!
With over 18 million views on YouTube, a #3 and #10 album on The Billboard Independent Album charts, and one of the most successful music Kickstarter campaigns ever under his belt, Steve has not only broken the rules, he’s changed the game in how to be a successful singer-songwriter in this era.
In 2018, Steve released his sophomore album, not the end of me. It hit #2 on the iTunes Pop Chart, #10 on Billboard’s Independent Album Chart, and #78 on Billboard’s Top Album Chart. It was released independently on his own label, Grand Nation LLC.
The album’s title track, “not the end of me,” is a song Steve wrote when a long-time relationship was coming to an end. “Breaking up can be long and drawn-out, painful and ugly. This one certainly was,” Grand said. “It was trying and exhausting, and this song deals with all of that, as well as the resolution that this is not the end of me.”
With the release of his first album, All American Boy, in 2015, Steve broke the mold for the traditional singer-songwriter. Having self-funded a viral video of the title track, then fan funding the release and creating a vocal and energetic fanbase, the openly gay artist from Chicago created a place for himself in the music industry and hasn’t looked back since. The past 4 years have seen Steve touring across the world, gathering new energetic fans and creating new music.

Part of the fun of each and every VACAYA resort vacation is our theme parties. And now that we’re at 120 days, that can only mean one thing… it’s time to dust off those sewing machines and refill those hot glue guns because the PARTY THEMES ARE HERE! Just let your creativity (or your Amazon Prime membership) soar!
And while costumes are always encouraged, they’re never required. We’ll love you in or out of costume and you’ll enjoy your time at VACAYA’s friendly welcoming parties no matter what.
Our first party of the week takes the traditional “hanky code” and thwacks it onto your wrist with a classic slap bracelet! Discover what “gets a rise” out of fellow resort guests as we get to know each other on Night 1!
VACAYA will provide slap bracelets in 10 different colors – black, red, light blue, dark blue, orange, green, gold, yellow, pink, and rainbow. If your predilections veer outside these colors, you might want to find a slap bracelet to represent them on your own.

*V-Dances are a VACAYA-inspired version of the classic afternoon T-Dance.

Now, it’s our chance to give back to them through our ReachOUT program.

Smoking is prohibited in all indoor spaces at UNICO 20˚87˚. All rooms are non-smoking and UNICO has the right to impose fines on any guest who violates this policy. Smoking is also not permitted at the main pools, with the exception of a large designated space near the 20.87 Pool (the center pool closest to the beach, near the large hot tub).
Smoking is allowed on your room’s patio/balcony, but because we all have to share these beautiful spaces, we ask that you show kindness and deference toward your non-smoking neighbors who may be trying to enjoy their patio/balcony simultaneously.
We fully recognize being a smoker in today’s world has its challenges, and we appreciate your flexibility in advance if we have to make adjustments to this plan once at the resort.

As part of a protected reserve, the beach will close at 7pm each evening for sea turtle mating (and no, that’s not a euphemism). We ask that you respect the area and stay clear so these majestic creatures can do their thing. The mating season ends on October 31. So the beach will be open the evening of November 1.
Vacationers visit Mexican coastal areas like Cancun, Tulum, and Riviera Maya for the sun, white sand beaches, and clear blue waters. Recently, though, they’ve also experienced something a bit unexpected: seaweed. We want our guests to be aware that while this is a natural phenomenon, UNICO 20˚87˚ does everything possible to keep their beach clear of seaweed. They have their own tractor and sweep the beach at 6am and 6pm daily. When we checked in with them recently, they reported they’ve seen a nice downturn in overall seaweed in recent weeks. But either way… we expect your time on the beach to be a wonderful experience because of the high level of maintenance performed by the hotel staff.
Each VACAYA trip is supported by a group of paid staffers known as “The Vacayans.” They are there to ensure each and every venue and event runs smoothly for you. They are also there to help you with any VACAYA-specific needs you may have during your time with us.
On our recent Ptown Cruise, there was a bit of confusion regarding The Vacayans that we wanted to clear up. The Vacayans (who wear bright pink shirts each day so you can easily spot them) are not volunteers like you may have seen with other companies. They’re not on vacation. They are employees of VACAYA and are there wholly to service the needs of our guests and to ensure each and every part of the VACAYA experience works flawlessly. While they’re all certainly pretty, they’re so much more than window dressing. They are there for YOU. And while you might see them around the pool or on an excursion “off the clock,” they’re ready to step up and assist at any time day or night.
Your UNICO Vacayans are:
Ronnie Jones Jr.

NON-SOLO GUESTS (those traveling with someone else in your room) – TO PURCHASE TRANSFERS:

WHAT TO WEAR
The resort is both luxurious and super casual at the same time. Think of it as “casual luxury.” Swimsuits/shorts and Ts/tanks are perfect during the day. And nice shorts/jeans/pants and a collared shirt are perfect resort wear during the evening. The restaurants at UNICO 20˚87˚ are incredibly beautiful spaces and you’ll see they warrant just a bit of style. As a general guideline, we ask that tank tops not be worn in the restaurants during dinner.
And we’ll say it again here (because it’s that important)… when moving away from the Clothing Optional La Escondida Pool, please cover yourself.
