OCT 4-10, 2020

Our journey to VACAYA Oasis at UNICO begins in:

Oasis is fun, luxurious, sporty, easy, relaxed, unscripted, indulgent, balanced, adventurous

The Vacayans are hard at work planning each and every detail of our premiere VACAYA Oasis event at UNICO Riviera Maya. We’ll have lots to share with you over the coming months as each and every detail comes together. You’ll find that information here.

We’ll also house an email archive on this page, too. This archive will feature all the trip-specific communications we have with you throughout your pre-resort experience with us. That way, if you happen to lose a general email somewhere along the way, you’ll be able to find it right here.

And from party themes to entertainment previews, VACAYA’s mission is to give you everything you need with plenty of time to ensure a totally stress-free experience. Get ready for your vacaya!

Many people ask us “what will the VACAYA Oasis experience be like?” VACAYA Oasis is certainly more laid back than our large-ship cruises, but with an irresistible level of 5-star luxury, perfect for those seeking fun, relaxation, adventure, and romance.

The VACAYA Oasis rhythm is… Relaxed. Easy. Fun. Balanced. Luxurious. Indulgent. Sporty. Unscripted. Adventurous. An all-new way to play.

The Vacayans recommend bringing insect repellant with you. The resort is located in a beautiful nature preserve that stretches the length of Riviera Maya. Because of that, you may see creatures you’ve never seen before both near the resort and on your excursions further afield. From large iguanas and grey foxes to tapirs, jaguars, and Jamaican fruit bats (which are substantially larger than your standard bat), the flora and fauna of the Yucatan Peninsula is fascinating. If you cross the paths of any wild creatures, we simply advise that you don’t attempt to touch them and definitely don’t feed them (which only encourages and conditions them to come closer to the resort).

While nearly everything is included at UNICO 20˚87˚, there is one amenity that does cost extra: the resort’s 12 VIP Cabanas around the La Unica, 20.87, and La Escondida Pools. These cabanas can be rented for $180 per day and hold a maximum of 4 guests each (one larger cabana holds 8 guests and rents for $250/day). That $180 fee can then be applied to any bottle service at the cabana. Individual drinks are included with your fare, of course, but full bottles of wine/champagne/alcohol are extra. So if you order a $200 bottle of champagne to enjoy at your cabana, you’d only pay the difference of $20 for that initial bottle of bubbly.

VACAYA Breeze & Suite guests will be able to reserve cabanas in advance when “extras booking” opens up for Breeze participants. Non-Breeze/Suite guests will be able to reserve a cabana on site at the resort.

Prices are subject to change up until sales are launched.

When arriving at the resort, there will be TWO check-in areas, which are both relatively close to each other:

  1. The Main Lobby (for our Breeze and Suite guests)
  2. The Convention Center (for all other guests)

Rooms are scheduled to be ready at 3pm. However, many rooms may be available prior to that time. If your room is ready upon your arrival, you’ll be given your keys straight away and will be able to go right to your room. If your room isn’t ready yet, you can check your bags with the porters and then enjoy all the resort facilities until your room is ready. There are changing rooms near the central pools – La Unica Pool and 20.87 Pool, so make sure you have your bathing suit (and any other needed items) in-hand before you give your luggage to the porters.

Unlike at other all-inclusive resorts, you will not wear an ID bracelet at UNICO because the resort is bracelet free!

Food during the day on Day 1 is available as noted here:

  • All-Day Snacks 6am-2am – Café Inez
  • Breakfast Buffet 7am-11am – 20.87 Restaurant
  • Breakfast A La Carte 7am-11am – Mi Carisa Restaurant
  • Tacos 11am-6pm – Costera (near La Unica Pool)
  • Pizza 11am-7pm – Costera (near La Unica Pool)
  • Lunch 12:30pm-4:30pm – 20.87 Restaurant

All times are subject to change.

VACAYA will offer a clothing optional pool between Buildings 7 and 8. This is the La Escondida Pool. When moving outside of this area, we ask that you please put your swimsuit back on. We know you’ll be tempted to stroll into the 20.87 Restaurant for a quick bite because it’s “just right there” and “I’ll be real quick,” but please don’t do this sans clothes. UNICO has been very gracious in allowing us to provide this clothing optional pool to our guests, so we want to be as respectful as we can be in regard to the guidelines they’ve established. So thank you in advance for your cooperation.

As a reminder to everyone coming to the resort earlier than Oct 4… La Escondida Pool is NOT clothing optional until October 5. With the resort’s guests from the week prior still able to use the facilities on Oct 4 (until their transfers take them away), we ask that you please stay clothed when using this pool. Also, the pool will not be clothing optional on October 10 (as future guests begin to arrive).

Although US Dollars are widely accepted around Mexico, there are some businesses that will only take Mexican Pesos.

If you decide to purchase Mexican Pesos, the current exchange rate is:

1 USD = 19.1 MXN

For the latest exchange rates, we recommend

There is a peso-dispensing ATM in the hotel lobby.

With the exception of Mexican citizens, all travelers must have a valid passport to travel to Mexico via air.

Visas are not required for US Citizens, but may be required of other nationalities. You can check the official visa requirements/instructions for Mexico HERE. It is the responsibility of each traveler to have the proper travel documents.

When arriving at CUN Airport, you will go through Mexican Immigration and Customs. After collecting your luggage in the Arrivals Hall, make your way to the Customs queue. Mexican Customs officials scan all bags as they leave the Arrivals Hall and some are randomly selected for further inspection. You’ll be asked to press a button that lights up either green or red to determine whether you’ll be randomly selected. Green means “you’re free to exit without inspection.” Red means “you’ve been selected for further inspection.” If selected for further inspection, simply follow the instructions of the officials as they do a hand inspection of your luggage.

After exiting the Customs area, you will go through an area known as “The Gauntlet,” where hoteliers, tour operators, and car services attempt to sell you their products. No need to stop here. Just smile and keep walking toward the exit doors. Once you exit the building, you’ll meet your transfer driver just outside (more specific details will come later).

VACAYA’s signature Red Light District – or El Barrio Rojo – will be open nightly from 11pm-3am. We’ll give you all the details at the resort.

We’ll begin previewing all your entertainment approximately 90 days before the event!

UNICO’s Included and Signature excursions allow you to explore the region around the resort and further afield. Our Breeze guests book their excursions in advance while all other guests book in-person at the resort. We’ll have information/booking tables set up during check-in.

Kayaks, Hobbie Cats, Standup Paddleboards, and Pedal Boats are available daily from 9am-4pm.

While UNICO has a beautiful reef just off shore, snorkel gear is not available for general use at the resort. So you’ll want to bring your own snorkel/mask or you can rent snorkel equipment from the local vendors on the beach. Gear is provided for the organized Snorkel 101 lessons on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.

Schedule is subject to change.

Friends of Bill W meetings will be available to all guests daily at 9am and 5:30pm in the Conference Center (near the lobby). Be sure to grab a coffee and a snack at nearby Café Inez before heading in!

You’ll find 110 power and USB plugs on the nightstands on each side of the bed. They are hidden, though. To access the power, simply press the front of the black panel and the plugs will reveal themselves.

All of the bath products are hypoallergenic. There’s shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion, and body soap – all from the botanicus MANDARINA line.

In addition, the bathroom amenities include:

  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Sewing Kit
  • Shower Cap
  • Shoe Mitt
  • Manicure Set
  • Shaving Kit
  • Cotton Pads
  • Cotton Buds

The minibars include an assortment of complimentary waters, sodas, beers, and salty & sweet snacks, which are replenished daily.

You can customize your minibar with the alcohol of your choice: vodka, rum, or mezcal. UNICO will also happily provide you with your preferred mixers, ingredients, and garnishes. Your Local Host can help you with customization.

In addition, each room features a Nespresso machine for your morning coffee.

There are several light switches controlling the myriad lights in each room. As a general rule, the TOP buttons turn the lights ON and the BOTTOM buttons turn the lights OFF.

The bed reading lights’ subtle on/off button is on the top of the light on the opposite side from the bulb.

The resort’s DO NOT DISTURB signs are large rope balls. Yours will be hanging on the hook just inside your room.

Each room at UNICO offers an easy-to-use safe to store your valuables. We recommend keeping your passport, money, electronic devices, jewelry, and any other items of value in your safe.

The stylists at the Esencia Salon are very very good at what they do, but for most, English is not their first language. So if you’re getting a haircut and your conversational Spanish doesn’t include styling lingo, we advise that you bring photos along to ensure you can easily communicate exactly what you want.

VACAYA Oasis @ UNICO 20°87° features complimentary resort-wide WiFi in all public spaces and in your room. Simply connect to the Unico network.

Mixology is the art and study of the science of mixing beverages. It’s about analyzing flavors, aromas, textures, colors, densities, levels of alcohol volume, balance, and striving for perfect harmony in each creation. Mixologists are revered in Mexico and one of the country’s very best leads the team at UNICO 20°87°.

You’ll soon have the chance to meet Luis “The Mix” Felipe, UNICO 20°87°’s Senior Mixologist. Over the course of our week, Luis Felipe will lead hands-on classes where you can learn the fine art of drink creation and preparation.

One of VACAYA’s main missions is to give back to the communities we visit. We view travel as a truly transformative experience. LGBT+ travel specifically has changed the way people all over the world view our community. They have given us so much by welcoming LGBT travelers with open arms. Now, it’s our chance to give back to them through our ReachOUT program.

VACAYA has partnered with UNICO 20˚87˚ to impact the everyday lives of those in the surrounding communities by bringing donated items from home to VACAYA Oasis @ UNICO. We’ll be collecting the following supplies:

  • Men’s and Women’s Clothing
  • Children’s and Baby Clothes
  • Blankets & Towels
  • School Supplies
  • Toys & Games

Your donated items will be distributed to the RCD Foundation (a civic association that promotes actions to improve the living conditions of people with limited resources through social development, education, and health programs) and to the Nuevo Noh-Bec and Juarez community schools.

If you’d like to ship supplies in advance, you can do so to the following address:

Hugo Hernandez – Hotel el Dorado Seaside y Hotel Palladium
Carr. Federal 307 km 206
Mz 22 Lte. 84
C.P 77710
Solidaridad Q. Roo

Please note in your shipment that you’re part of the UNICO/VACAYA group.

Smoking is prohibited in all indoor spaces at UNICO 20˚87˚. All rooms are non-smoking and UNICO has the right to impose fines on any guest who violates this policy. Smoking is also not permitted at the main pools, with the exception of a large designated space near the 20.87 Pool (the center pool closest to the beach, near the large hot tub).

Smoking is allowed on your room’s patio/balcony, but because we all have to share these beautiful spaces, we ask that you show kindness and deference toward your non-smoking neighbors who may be trying to enjoy their patio/balcony simultaneously.

We fully recognize being a smoker in today’s world has its challenges, and we appreciate your flexibility in advance if we have to make adjustments to this plan once at the resort.

UNICO’s Included and Signature spa/salon services are sure to be a highlight of your vacation. You can explore all of your options, including pricing, on our Wellness page.

If you’re new to luxury travel, it’s worth pointing out that the retail prices of the services provided by the resort are at a standard 5-star level. The best way to illustrate the differences is by comparing two familiar brands – Sheraton and Four Seasons. Both are great companies, but the pricing at each can be dramatically different. Sheraton is more mainstream and breakfast might cost $15-$20 where a Four Seasons breakfast could cost $50-$60 (no worries about food prices, though… at UNICO, food is included). That illustration, however, also applies to services provided – a massage at a Sheraton might cost $100, where at the Four Seasons it might be $450. And that’s the difference between a 3-star property like Sheraton and a 5-star property like Four Seasons (or in this case, UNICO). The services at UNICO are infinitely more luxurious and come at a higher retail price point, but you’ll only pay a 25% service fee, which is the gratuity for the provided service.

As part of a protected reserve, the beach will close at 7pm each evening for sea turtle mating (and no, that’s not a euphemism). We ask that you respect the area and stay clear so these majestic creatures can do their thing.

We’ll provide transfer instructions approximately 45 days before the event.

While the tap water at the resort is perfectly fine for showering, bathing, and brushing your teeth, it’s recommended that you drink bottled water both while on property and off. Bottled still and sparking water are abundantly available both in-room and around the resort. And if you need more in your room, simply ask your Local Host and they will be happy to provide for your individual needs.

Seasonal norms for early October show consistent highs of around 89°F / 31.6°C and a consistent low of around 79°F / 26.1°C each night.

The resort is both luxurious and super casual at the same time. Think of it as “casual luxury.” Swimsuits/shorts and Ts/tanks are perfect during the day. And nice shorts/jeans/pants and a collared shirt are perfect resort wear during the evening. Nice T-shirts are also ok. The restaurants at UNICO 20˚87˚ are incredibly beautiful spaces and you’ll see they warrant just a bit of style. As a general guideline, we ask that tank tops not be worn in the restaurants during dinner.

And we’ll say it again here (because it’s that important)… when moving away from the Clothing Optional La Escondida Pool, please cover yourself.

We’ll house all of our guest emails here.
